Help Zach & Jenna Recover After a Traumatic Brain Injury

In October 2021, Zach sustained a life-altering traumatic brain injury (TBI).

At the time, he was a freelance video producer, bass player in a successful band, and a server at a restaurant in Lexington. He was growing a popular client base within the marketing industry for over 5 years.

Most days in the early recovery were spent laying down all day with bags of frozen vegetables on Zach’s head.

One night while serving at work, an altercation ensued when 3 men became aggressively inebriated at the bar. In trying to protect a waitress from physical harm, Zach was thrown against the wall, onto the ground, and punched repeatedly in the head and face. The suspect fled the scene and was not found. Another man, attempting to punch someone else, then grabbed Zach by the hair and wrestled with him to the ground. He was arrested and charged.

The Recovery Journey

For the first year, Zach’s functioning was severely impaired. Terrible migraines, extreme sensitivity to light, and debilitating brain fog and fatigue. Conventional doctors in Kentucky didn’t have any answers.

Zach stayed with his grandparents in Hilton Head, SC to work with a functional neurologist for a month. The extreme blunt force traumas to the head had severely impacted optic function. The injury to the optic pathway presented an array of diagnoses, adding to the growing list of TBI symptoms. The stress of recovery made managing Type 1 Diabetes much more challenging, creating more compounding discomfort. The more severe symptoms had improved over time, but Zach continued to experience a general inability to do everyday tasks.

He had to give up everything, including his thriving business.

3 Years Later

Zach has come a long way on this healing journey. However, the recovery has not been linear. Recent months have seen a resurgence of severe symptoms, forcing him to reduce work hours drastically. He is unable to return to the work he was doing before, leaving him figuring out a new career path, completely starting over.

A New Path

Throughout the journey, Zach transitioned his love for rock music into creating sounds as a tool to help him recover. Together with his fiancée, Jenna, Sol Transition was created, a platform dedicated to sonic meditations. The mission is to foster a community where individuals can connect through sound and shared experiences of healing and growth.

We’re reaching out to you for help in overcoming the financial burdens accumulated over these three years due to Zach’s injury. The recovery from a traumatic brain injury often takes up to five years or more, for physical healing and to adapt to a new way of living.

Please consider donating to help Zach’s recovery. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.

If you can't donate, sharing our story can reach someone who can.

Thank you for being part of our journey.
